Outlets that independent raters place left of center. Most are there because of their opinion pages and their editorial board's endorsement record, not because their reporting is inaccurate.

Outlets raters place near the center, or where the raters disagree enough that no single label would be honest.

Outlets that independent raters place right of center. As on the left, the classification usually rests on opinion content and endorsements rather than on the accuracy of the reporting.

Also called wire services. They gather news and sell it to newspapers, websites and TV stations, which publish it under their own name. If you have ever seen a story credited to ‘AP’, you have read one. They sell to outlets on every side, which is why left or right is the wrong question to ask about them.
